Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine has a potential as alternative engine because of its high efficiency and ultra low emission in next generation. However, it is difficult to control ignition timing and combustion duration of HCCI engine, because ignition and combustion of HCCI engine largely relay on oxidation process of fuel. So, in this study, a basic research on mechanism of auto-ignition and combustion of homogeneous fuel / air mixtures was done through both experimental study by using a 4 stroke single cylinder HCCI engine and chemical kinetics calculations of elementary reactions with CHEMKIN.
