間欠流による軸方向拡散の改善の可能性を明らかにするために，直円管気道モデル内の軸方向に発達した流れ場において流速分布と有効拡散係数を測定した。基本周波数と換気量をそろえて測定をしたところ，正弦波振動流に対して間欠流では有効拡散定数が平均2.3倍に増加することが明らかになった。

ミミズ腹髄神経節をカルシウム濃度感受性色素または膜電位感受性色素で染色し，グルタミン酸とその誘導体で刺激した時の応答を光学的に調べた。グルタミン酸とその誘導体はミミズ巨大軸索に顕著なカルシウム動員をひき起こした。また腹髄神経節の神経細胞はtrans-ACPD以外の総ての薬物刺激に脱分極した。
