    本研究は、ハプスブルク帝国の崩壊前後に貫通する統治形態と国民社会形成の動態を明らかにしながら、帝国後の継承諸国と諸国民社会の関係、国際連盟体制と国際関係の再編、そして難民・無国籍者の問題の検討を通して、「国民主権」と民主主義体制の実現と謳われた帝国後の中・東欧地域の国家秩序にいかに次の破局が内包されたのか明らかにするものである。中・東欧では国家秩序の破砕を経て、理想主義的な「国民国家」秩序の実験が行われたが、その後、第二次世界大戦期・戦後に終末論的な暴力行使の焦点となった。それゆえに第一次世界大戦後の統治秩序・国際関係の再編にどのような問題があったのか、長期的に解明することは不可欠である。

    本研究は、危機的状況下における感情の創発と社会の変動との関係を総体的に理解したうえで、ポスト危機を展望する新たな感情史研究である。具体的には、①感情史の理論・方法論を整理統合し、鍵概念を再定義する理論研究、②ナチ体制下の市民の感情経験など、20世紀初頭から第二次世界大戦にかけての諸事例を分析する歴史研究、および③現在の香港危機を、政治的感情の発露と統制という視点から分析する地域研究を行う。理論研究が共同研究の枠組みを構築し、それぞれ過去と現在を扱う歴史研究と地域研究とが補完し合うことで、今日的意義が明確で訴求力のある感情史を実現する。
    本研究は、危機的状況下における感情の創発と社会の変動との関係を総体的に理解したうえで、ポスト危機を展望する新たな感情史研究である。具体的には、①感情史の理論・方法論を整理統合し、鍵概念を再定義する理論研究、②ナチ体制下の市民の感情経験など、20世紀初頭から第二次世界大戦にかけての諸事例を分析する歴史研究、および③現在の香港危機を、政治的感情の発露と統制という視点から分析する地域研究を行う。理論研究が共同研究の枠組みを構築し、それぞれ過去と現在を扱う歴史研究と地域研究が補完し合うことで、今日的意義が明確で訴求力のある感情史の実現を目指す。2年目にあたる2024年度は、これまでの中間成果をふまえ、今後の展開を構想する研究報告を、5月開催の日本西洋史学会記念シンポジウムで行った。①を伊東「感情史とは何だったのか？」、②を小野寺・澤田「数量的分析は感情にどこまで迫れるか？―『クレンペラーの日記』を例に」、③を倉田・澤田「紛争と感情－SNSから振り返る2019年香港反政府デモ」が担当したほか、心理学者の大平英樹氏（名古屋大学）、人類学者の西井凉子（東京外国語大学）よりコメントを得た。その後は、各自の個別研究を進めながら、研究集会を重ねて進捗状況を確認し、翌年度の計画を立案した。
    各自が着実に研究を進め、その中間的な成果を日本西洋史学会大会記念シンポジウムで発表することができた。論文等の成果についても、着実に蓄積が進んでいる。年度末には、各々の事例研究の構想を修正・共有し、本プロジェクトの枠組みと問題意識を再確認することができた。
    本プロジェクトの成果として刊行する論文集の準備を進める。具体的には、各メンバーの事例研究を進め、年度末にはワークショップを開いて、ピア・レビューを行い、論文執筆へとつなげる。

  • Transnational history of humanitarianism: the international Red Cross movement during the interwar period

    　View Summary

    In this study, I examined the development of the international Red Cross movement and the evolution of international humanitarian law in the modern world, and clarified the process by which "humanitarianism" became a major norm in the international community and various activities based on it became active, as well as the limitations and impediments to such activities. By examining the reception of Henry Dunant's "Memoirs of Solferino," which triggered the founding of the Red Cross movement, from the aspects of emotional and legal history, I discussed how humanitarianism took root in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I also examined how humanitarianism was put into practice in response to the various humanitarian crises stemming from World War I, and how the experiences of each case were reflected and reflected upon in subsequent periods.
