    本研究は「尊厳」概念を総合的に論じる場として「尊厳学」の確立を目指し、その「臨床応用的」問題の一つである先端科学技術の社会的受容(あるいは拒否)に注目する。先端科学技術が急速に発展するなかで、その社会的受容における影響を予見的に分析し、何のためのイノベーションなのかを一般市民との討議を交えて自己反省する応答的イノベーションが求められているからだ。とりわけAI・ロボットの社会的受容に焦点を絞り、そこにおいて「尊厳」概念がどのように規範として機能しうるのかを具体的に分析し、あるべきあり方をAI・ロボット倫理学として提示する。

    本総括班は、「領域運営調整会議」「ジェンダー学会議」「評価会議」を主導的に開催することで、本領域研究を適切に遂行できる環境と条件を整えると同時に、Web上にHPを作成して研究成果を各計画研究班で共有できるように工夫したりその都度社会に向けて発信したりできるようにする。その際に、各計画研究代表者の役割を明確にし、特に特任助教や特任研究員等の採用といった若手支援を適切に遂行できるように促す。また、年度毎の論文集の企画や『講座　尊厳』、さらに社会へのアウトリーチ等の企画にも責任を持つ。

    Why be moral?(なぜ道徳的であるべきか)問題は道徳哲学の伝統的かつ根本的な問題であり、数々の解答が提示されてきた。申請者も「道徳的であることが実践理性の要求だからだ」という独自の解答を提示した。しかし、何をもって正解・不正解だと言えるかの基準が明確でなく、提示された解答が公平に評価されてこなかった。そこで本研究ではこの問題が道徳的であることの規範理由を問うものであることに注目する。この規範理由を徳概念によって分析することでWhy be moral?問題について正解・不正解の基準を提案する。その基準を使ってこれまでの解答を検討し、申請者自身の解答を擁護することを目指す。
