ドライビングシミュレータを用いて被験者にトラッキングタスクを課しながら，ヘッドアップディスプレイ上に視覚刺激を呈示し，視覚刺激に反応する実験と煩わしさを評価する実験をそれぞれ実施した．若年者と高齢者が実験に参加し，視覚刺激の種類(大きさ，色，輝度など)と反応時間，煩わしさの関係を分析した．

本稿では，ITSサービスなどの情報サービスの設計や導入のための基礎検討として，二重課題法を用いて，道路環境や交通状況の特徴あるいは視覚や聴覚のモダリティの違いがドライバの認知負担に与える影響を分析した事例を紹介した．ドライビングシミュレータによる実験を通じて，道路環境や交通状況，モダリティなどの要因がドライバの副次課題成績，運転行動に与える影響を分析し，ドライバの認知負担の特徴や情報サービスの設計・導入について考察するとともに実験を実施する際の留意点等について説明した．
