  • Hayato KOSUGE (hamlet@a3.keio.jp) is professor of Foreign Languages and Liberal Arts, Keio University, Tokyo. He earned BA and MA degrees in English literature at Keio University, and finished doctoral course in 1993 at Keio. His research interests include the Japanese underground movement of the 1960s and 1970s, with a focus on Butoh. He is involved in the Hijikata Tatsumi Archive in Keio University Art Centre, and is a research fellow at the Research Institute for Digital Media and Content, Keio University. He is the project leader of the research group, Portfolio Butoh. He is also interested in English Tudor drama mainly focusing on Shakespearean dramaturgy. Regarding Shakespeare not as canonical but as material sources, he has been considering the relationship between the dramatic conventions and the cultural context, and the influences and contrasts of performance between East and West. Among his many publications, he is the editor of Fuhai to Saisei (Corruption and Regeneration), and coauthor of Shintai I Bunka-ron (Body, Medicine, and Culture). He is visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge in 1996-98, and Stanford University in 2003. He will be in the position of the Director of Keio Research Center for Liberal Arts from October 2014.

    本試論では，シェイクスピア作『リア王』（1605年頃）において，「空間」が他の悲劇に比してとりわけ強く意識されていること，この場合の「空間」とは劇世界の物理的空間としての自然環境であると同時に，神々を含めた世界像，そしてそれら全てを成立させている宇宙的原理も意味することを述べる．すなわち，『リア王』の中の劇人物にとって，空間はシェイクスピアが『ハムレット』（Hamlet, Prince of Demark）において，演劇の目的を「自然に対して鏡を掲げること」（“the mirror up to nature,” 3.2.18-19）と述べる時の「自然」を指し，それは，我々全てを網羅する「家」（オイコス）を語源に持つ「エコロジー」の最も広い意味と言ってもいい．言い換えれば，『リア王』に見られる空間意識は，“人間の行動や精神が空間としての具体的世界と繋がっており，お互いに影響し合っている”というエコクリティシズムの前提（Glotfelty, xix）と共通の土台を持っている．シェイクスピア批評においては，Green Shakespeare: from Ecopolitics to Ecocriticism (2006), Shakespeare and Ecology (2015)といったエコロジー批評に特化したシェイクスピア論集が次々と編まれており，シェイクスピアの作品と場所性を強く意識した論考が多く生まれているが，本論で言う空間意識も場所性の別表現と言って良いのではないか．シェイクスピアは，自らが活動をした同時代のイングランドを題材にした作品を１作品しか残さなかったにも拘わらず，『リア王』の劇世界においては，人間とそれを取り巻く世界との相互関係を描き出していることを試論として述べたい．

    本稿では、『カフェ・ミュラー』そのものの解釈や意義付けではなく、この作品をアーカイブ映像で見ることの意味について筆者の試論を示したい。記録されたダンス作品に我々が向かい合う時、ライブのパフォーマンス体験と比べて、そこでは何が失われ、何が付け加えられるのか？映像を用いて解釈する時に何に留意すべきなのか？特に『カフェ・ミュラー』を映像化する時、そこにはどのような特徴が出現するのだろうか？というのが筆者の基本的な問題意識である。なお、『カフェ・ミュラー』については、L'Arche Editeur編集の『Café Mueller』（出版―Arthaus Musik）による1985年収録版（出演―Malou Airaudo / Pina Bausch / Dominique Mercy / Jan Minarik / Nazareth Panadero / Jean Laurent Sasportes）をテクストとしたが、筆者は、国立劇場大劇場（三宅坂）での来日公演『カフェ・ミュラー』を2006年4月13日に観劇した。また、後にNHKで放映された同公演の舞台中継、および、ヴィム・ヴェンダース監督による映画『Pina』の中でのスタジオ録画とペドロ・アルモドバル監督映画『トーク・トゥ・ハー』（スペイン、2002年）の中の部分的引用も参照した。

    Join us over the course for talks and a screening of Shiokubi (1975) – a performance created by butoh dancer Bishop Yamada, overseen by Tatsumi Hijikata. This performance marks the founding of Yamada’s own dance company Hoppo Butoh Ha in Tsuruoka (Yamagata prefecture). The performance was shot as part of a video project known as the VIC (Video Information Center)*, which includes 1,200 tapes of performances, exhibitions, and events from the 1970s and 1980s. Those involved in the project were not only interested in documenting the performance of Shiokubi (Head was kept in salt) itself, but the whole world around the performance: from arrival at the venue, to final rehearsal, to afterparty. We will be giving researchers a chance to watch these additional materials, as well as situating the film within the context of the VIC archive and the Tatsumi Hijikata Archive, both held at Keio University Art Center.

    *VIC (Video Information Center, 1972-present) is a movement that recorded various events to produce experimental television broadcasts, such as the 1978 ‘Paravision Ten’ CATV broadcast.

    *Butoh dance is said to have started in the late 1950s in Japan, with Hijikata Tatsumi as its founder. Hijikata’s butoh method specifically uses image-language as choreography, and engages with Japanese movement traditions as well as Western literary and artistic influences. Butoh places a special importance on the quality and energy of movement, seeking to encourage a localized sensitivity to movement, through connection with the imagination. It particularly interrogates ideas of an uncontrolled, distorted, or collapsed body, and is sometimes termed the ‘body in revolt.’

    VICコレクション*より、大野一雄の伝説的公演〈ラ・アルヘンチーナ頌〉の上映会を行いました。舞踏を代表する作品の一つである本公演の初演をとらえたVICの映像は、舞踏研究において、そして当時の前衛芸術を語る上で稀有な資料です。
    第一部として、石本華江（慶應義塾大学アート・センター土方巽アーカイヴ）によりアート・センターおよびVICコレクションについて説明の後、〈ラ・アルヘンチーナ頌〉公演映像の全編上映を行いました。
    第二部は小菅隼人から大野一雄の舞踏について概要の説明、また永田靖（大阪大学中之島芸術センター／大阪大学文学研究科演劇学研究室）と共にアングラ演劇や舞踏の流れについて討議を行いました。

    The theme of the colloquium will be “Politics and Theatre in Modern Asia.” Asian theater has undergone its own transformation in all regions during the 20th century and has contributed many cutting-edge stage creations to the world of theater.
