15世紀後半に復活した騎士道精神をマロリーやキャクストンの作品に探り、一方わが国の武士道は１７世紀後半から形成される歴史的発展を跡づける。戦闘に参加する必要がなくなると、倫理綱領としての騎士道・武士道が生まれることを結論付ける。
