• My current research theme covers the silk industry of Barcelona from the second half of the 18th century to the first half of the 19th century, in particular, the silk-stocking trade of that period. Through the systematic studies of historical documents such as testaments, inventories post-mortem and marriage settlement of such craftsmen and of their wives and widows, I seek to shed light on the changes to their lives and labour on the eve of the industrialization: how their working styles and family structures changed, how their lifestyle culture and mentality changed, and how they tried to survive that period of transformation.

  On the basis of the marriage contracts of individuals from the silk, metal and leather sectors, the article distinguishes the patterns of artisan migration by trade and gender, and clarifies some characteristics –geographical and socio-professional origin, age of the spouses, literacy or economic capacity– of the immigrants who came to form part of the Barcelona craft sectors in 1770-1817. Being sons of peasants, boys came to learn a trade, most of them from certain districts near the city. Girls immigrated to work or to marry with a large dowry, often from more distant regions than boys, and the money they brought and sometimes their artisan craft were indispensable in the marital economy. These qualified immigrants, some of modest social position and some rich, most of them literate –included some women– contributed to the accumulation of human capital that laid the foundation for the future industrialization of the city.

  El objetivo de este artículo es rastrear las aportaciones de las mujeres como esposas, viudas e hijas de los maestros agremiados al negocio familiar de la manufactura sedera de Barcelona en los años indicados. Es impensable que ellas no participaran en las actividades productivas en los talleres de su esposo o de su padre, sin embargo, las mujeres en la producción manufacturera −después de la exclusión de las mujeres de la maestría gremial y del aprendizaje a principios de la edad moderna hasta su aparición como mano de obra barata en el sistema fabril− rara vez han sido objeto de estudios, tal vez porque la documentación oficial o gremial no dejan informaciones sobre ellas. Así, trataremos de buscar sus rastros en la documentación notarial −capítulos matrimoniales, testamentos e inventarios post-mortem−, o sea en los documentos que dejaron las mismas mujeres y sus esposos cuando se casaban o cuando se morían para definir las condiciones económicas del matrimonio, su derecho a las dotes o a la herencia familiar. Aunque son informaciones dispersas, trataremos de dar un análisis cualitativo para lograr a acercarnos a una imagen más completa de actividades y aportaciones de estas mujeres. En los análisis se contrastará el marco jurídico e institucional relacionado con la herencia y el matrimonio con las operaciones reales que se encuentran en las fuentes, con el fin de aclarar la realidad y la importancia de las diversas formas en que las mujeres, como hijas, esposas y viudas, contribuían a los negocios familiares, lo que no puede ser revelado sólo por un análisis institucional.

  近代化の過程で移民が都市人口増大の決定的要因となったことには異論がない。加えて近年のギルド研究は、ギルドの徒弟制度が市外からの移民の受け入れに大きな役割を果たしたことを明らかにしている。当該時期のバルセローナにおいても、人口の半数以上が市外からの流入者で、ギルドの徒弟の60〜80％は市外出身者だった。しかし、これらの移民の流入後の実態を示す史料の欠如から、彼らの産業化への貢献や、他地域への技術伝播における役割を実証的に示すことはできてこなかった。本研究では同市絹織物ギルドの徒弟936人のデータと司教区婚姻記録の交差から、市外出身の徒弟の結婚時の居住地と職業、経済状況を明らかにし、同時に多くの移民を送り出した村の事例の質的分析を通して、徒弟のライフサイクルの中での移動という観点から、都市への/からの移動におけるギルドの役割を検討する。（本報告はバルセローナ大学研究グループTIGでの共同研究の成果である。）
