A coupling system of quantum dots and nanocavity realizes strong light-matter interaction. The unique physics in this system is based on the cavity quantum electrodynamics. A nanocavity laser with an ultralow threshold can be achieved by using quantum dots and a photonic crystal nanocavity with strong photon confinement. We have reported the first achievement of continuous-wave lasing of an optically pumped photonic crystal (PhC) nanocavity laser operating at room temperature. Further improvement of nano-fabrication technology results in smaller threshold power of the order of 1μW. We also report theoretical analysis based on quantum optics to obtain prerequisites of nanocavity, such as Q value and positioning accuracy, for single quantum dot laser, which is one of the forms of ultimate lasers.
