While at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was a spokesperson for members of the non-Japanese speaking press, while also writing speeches for Foreign Minister(s). Prior to that worked with Nikkei Business (weekly magazine) covering economics and finance for 20 years. During the time worked in London and took sabbaticals, twice in the U.S. and once in China. Special Guest Professor since the advent of the SDM, and assumed tenured professorship as of April 2014. Reading international political economy with the students so that they can obtain intellectual agility with which they could go back and forth between the past and the present, and Japan and the rest of the world.
