Kazuhiro Asakawa is Professor of Global Innovation Management at Graduate School of Business Administration, Keio University, Japan. He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. from INSEAD, France, his MBA from Harvard Business School, and his BA summa cum laude in Political Science from Waseda University, Japan. His research interest lies in the areas of global innovation and global R&D management of multinational corporations, cross-border knowledge sourcing and leveraging, subsidiary evolution, and autonomy-control dynamics. His research appeared in many major scholarly journals including Journal of International Business Studies, Global Strategy Journal, and Journal of World Business. He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) in 2015. At Keio he was appointed Mitsubishi Chair in 2013 for two terms.
He is a Consulting Editor for Journal of International Management, an Advisory Editor for Research Policy and serves on the editorial board of many scholarly journals, including Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of International Management, Asia Pacific Journal of Management, and Journal of Organization Design, among others. He served as an Associate Editor for Global Strategy Journal and a Senior Editor for Asia Pacific Journal of Management. He served as program chair, track chair, and board member for many international academic conferences.
He taught at international business schools including ESSEC, JKU Linz, McGill, and Yonsei as a visiting faculty, and he was a visiting scholar at MIT Sloan School of Management and Northeastern University.
In Japan, he served as Japan Chapter Chair of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and President of Japan Academy of Multinational Enterprises (AMNE). He was also a Faculty Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI) at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan, and a Visiting Government Scholar at the National Research Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) at the Ministry of Education.
