SDGs in focus: SDG 9 and interlinkages with other SDGs – Industry, innovation and infrastructure (Panel) The theme will be "Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels". In the forum, participants will be able to further discuss the effective and inclusive recovery measures to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and explore actionable policy guidance for the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs at all levels. The HLPF in 2023, without prejudice to the integrated, indivisible and interlinked nature of the SDGs, will also review in-depth Goals 6 on clean water and sanitation, 7 on affordable and clean energy, 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure, 11 on sustainable cities and communities, and 17 on partnerships for the Goals. The following 40 presenters will carry out voluntary national reviews (VNRs) of their implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the forum: Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Canada, Central African Republic, Comoros, Chile, Croatia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, European Union, Fiji, France, Guyana, Iceland, Ireland, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Maldives, Mongolia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, St Kitts & Nevis , Syrian Arab Republic , Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan, United Republic of Tanzania , Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia. The HLPF in July will also support the mid-term review of the implementation of the SDGs and the preparations for the 2023 SDG Summit – the HLPF to be convened under the auspices of the General Assembly in September 2023.

Think7 (T7) is the official think tank engagement group of the Group of 7 (G7). Under the T7 process, global think tank experts develop research-based policy recommendations for consideration by G7 countries and partners, in coordination with the G7 presidency. In 2023, the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is chairing T7 as part of Japan’s G7 presidency.

The T7 Japan Summit featured proposals developed by experts from G7 countries and worldwide to support policy discussions at the G7 Hiroshima Summit on 19-21 May and beyond. They draw upon research conducted via T7 Japan task forces under the theme Addressing Crises, Reigniting Sustainable Development, Bridging the G7 and Group of 20 (G20) and detail solutions to advance:

Development and Economic Prosperity
Wellbeing, Environmental Sustainability, and Just Transition
Science and Digitalization for a Better Future
Peace, Security, and Global Governance
The T7 Japan Summit also emphasized measures that promote greater collaboration between the G7 and the Global South and seek to bridge G7-G20 action, underscoring the importance of these approaches for tackling shared challenges. It included panel discussions on Ukraine’s reconstruction, gender-equitable economic growth, disarmament and non-proliferation, and other imperatives, and was followed by a press conference.

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan, will organize a symposium on April 17, 2023, entitled “OECD’s Activities and Contribution to G7 in the Area of Climate Change and the Environment” and co-hosted by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the OECD Tokyo Centre.

This symposium will introduce the OECD’s work in the area of climate change and the environment, as well as its contribution to the G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Climate, Energy, and Environment in Sapporo to be held on April 15 and 16, 2023 and will discuss the expected role of the OECD in addressing global challenges such as the transition to a decarbonized society and to a nature-positive economy that halts biodiversity loss and turns it into recovery.
