Smart Ambient Media (SAM) is a display methodology designed to seamlessly enhance various daily activities by utilizing a real-time human-in-the-loop framework that integrates multimodal sensing, intelligent computation, and adaptive rendering. This keynote will provide an overview of the fundamental principles of SAM, followed by three key applications:
1) Ambient Music co-Player (AMP)—a system that captures real-time performance data from an improvising electric guitar soloist and dynamically generates corresponding visuals to interact with the player.
2) Computational ophthalmology—Computational glasses provide visual impaired individuals with the same amount of visual information as perceived by sighted ones depending on the kind of visual dysfunction.
3) Anamorphosis-based stereoscopic viewer (ANSWER)—a simple, glasses-free stereoscopic display utilizing an orthogonally arranged pair of monitors, where motion parallax effects are induced through eye-tracking and the visual perception of a cyclopean eye.

Inspired by the trick artworks of a young Japanese artist Hideyuki Nagai, we developed a simple, naked-eye stereoscopic viewer for personal use. The system is equipped only with the orthogonal arrangement of two general-purpose display monitors together with a web camera and induces motion parallax by tracking the viewer’s eyes to update the state of anamorphosis, known as monocular illusion expression. The stereoscopic effect perceived by the user may be degraded due to binocular disparity, especially when the viewer is used with small display monitors. It has been empirically proven that the sense of presence can be improved by placing a so-called Cyclopean eye at a specific position on the line between the two eyes to obtain a pinpointed anamorphosis. The viewer, however, encounters a problem that displayed objects may be either partially beyond the rendering area or completely missing, depending on the object’s position relative to the user’s viewpoint, resulting in a reduced stereoscopic effect. We attempt to address this problem by employing a so-called frame-break method that has recently been used in filmmaking and advertisement. I also report on a trial porting of the viewer to a commercially available laptop PC with a foldable display.

Many problems are observed in the form of time-varying multi-dimensional datasets. In this lecture, we will discuss how large datasets of this kind are visually explored, with a particular focus on two kinds of dynamic visual querying, namely, query by example and query by sketch. These querying approaches serve as more efficient ways of identifying observable and recurring time variation patterns in long-term datasets. Dynamic visual querying is amplified with an auxiliary mechanism called “fact-guided querying,” which is intended to iteratively refine queries and results by specifying a query on the basis of the findings of a previous query. The efficacy of these concepts will be illustrated with actual analysis examples executed in a visual analytics environment called TimeTubeX for blazar observation research.

Inspired by the trick artworks of Hideyuki Nagai, a young Japanese artist, we have developed a simple naked-eye stereoscopic viewing system for personal use. It induces motion parallax through the orthogonal arrangement of two general-purpose display monitors and combining anamorphosis, known as monocular illusion expression, with tracking the viewer’s eyes. However, the stereoscopic effect perceived by the viewer can be degraded when using small display monitors due to binocular disparity. In this talk, I sketch our latest idea of pinpointing the anamorphosis effect by identifying the different degrees of contribution the two eyes make when recognizing the composition of a synthetic space. We have empirically proved that rather than detecting and tracking the dominant eye, the sense of presence is possibly improved by placing a so-called Cyclopean eye at a certain internal position between the two eyes to obtain the pinpointed anamorphosis. We report on a trial porting of this proposed approach to a commercially available laptop PC with a foldable display and present a few examples of immersive cyberworlds.

Prof. Tosiyasu L. Kunii passed away in November 2020. He had been a professor at Department of Information Sciences, Faculty of Science, the University of Tokyo and was the founding president of the University of Aizu. CGI 2021 held a workshop in memory of Prof. Kunii since the conference was founded by him in 1987. Fujishiro started his carrier as an assistant professor to work with Prof. Kunii at the University of Tokyo in 1985 and hence, he was invited to provide a talk for the workshop. Fujishiro picked up a topic of FORSETI, a computational forensic visualization system under development. It is because in 1985, the first paper coauthored by Prof. Kunii and Fujishiro proposed a medical imaging method. The paper was published in the second volume of the Visual Computer journal, which was also initiated by Prof. Kunii as the first editor in chief in 1985. Following Fujishiro’s brief message in homage to Prof. Kunii, the main body of the talk was delivered by Baoqing Wang (D3). The original paper on FORSETI is to be published in a forthcoming issue in memory of Prof. Kunii of the Visual Computer Journal.

Many problems are observed in the form of time-varying multi-dimensional datasets. In this lecture, we will discuss how to visually explore large datasets of that kind, with a particular focus on automatic feature extraction, dynamic visual querying, and clustering. Automatic feature extraction is dedicated to the discovery of dynamic time variations over multiple variables and their characteristic derivatives. Dynamic visual querying provides more efficient exploration of recurring time variation patterns and subsequences to validate specific hypotheses. Clustering helps to identify hidden universalities in a long-term dataset by classifying subsequences according to their similarities. These concepts will be illustrated with several examples executed in a system, called TimeTubeX, for blazar observation research.

Astrophysics can be regarded as the ultimate remote sensing because no one can travel to see real heavenly bodies located far from the Earth. The only option for astronomers is to observe and study a variety of signals emanating from the distant bodies. This might lead to their enthusiasm for data visualization, compared to ones in other disciplines. Indeed, astrophysics relies heavily on the values of observed data visualization and analysis. In this talk, an overview of the latest research results from our collaborative research projects with astronomers will be given, including asymmetric biclustering of multivariate data for correlated subspace mining and its application to supernovae categorization, TimeTubes for visually extracting feature polarization variations from long-sequences of observed blazar datasets, and aflak as a novel visual programming environment to conduct fine-grained transformations, filtering and visual analyses on multispectral astrophysical observations.

In this lecture, after providing a brief history and basic concepts, the power and values of AR/VR visualization will be illustrated with several results from the related research projects which the lecturer has conducted so far. These examples include lidar measurement and detection of wake turbulence at an airport, deploying an infinite number of pressure meters in a hybrid wind tunnel, haptization of 3D Diffusion Tensor-MRI datasets, and synesthesia/optic illusion-based enhancements of multisensory/visual display.

Sparse modeling is a general principle for promoting high-dimensional data-driven science. I am head of a planned visualization research project in a designated governmental program in Japan. The primary goal of this research project is to construct a visualization platform for understanding the behavior of given high-dimensional measurement data in physical space by projecting it onto a judiciously designed information space. In this talk, I will give an overview of the governmental program and introduce the latest research results from the research project, including spectral-based contractible parallel coordinate plots, biclustering multivariate data for correlated subspace mining, and TimeTubes for visualizing polarization variations in blazars in a personalized immersive display environment.

Innovative Areas called “Initiative for High-Dimensional Data-Driven Science through Deepening of Sparse Modeling” (http://sparse-modeling.jp/index_e.html). In this project, I have been heading a planned visualization research project with a primary goal to construct a visualization platform for understanding the behavior of given high-dimensional data in physical space by projecting it onto a designated information space. For this purpose, we transform relatively low-dimensional data obtained through sparse modeling to two, three, or four-dimensional space where we can fully visualize the characteristics of the original high-dimensional data. The idea behind our project is to establish an interactive model called human-in-the-loop by incorporating visual feedback from the users in the analysis of high-dimensional data based on sparse modeling. In this talk, I will give an overview of the governmental project and introduce recent research results from the planned research project, including spectral-based contractible parallel coordinate plots, Biclustering multivariate data for correlated subspace mining, and TimeTubes for visualizing polarization variations in blazars.

本稿では，スパースモデリングによって得られた比較的次元が低いデータを，具体的に効果的な視覚解析に落とし込むいくつかの事例について紹介した．ここで用いる道具は，ある対象間の関係などを表す抽象データの視覚解析の表現としてよく用いられるネットワーク(グラフ) である．実際ネットワーク表現は，ソーシャルネットワークや同時に購入する物品関係などの抽象データを効果的に可視化することができ，人によるデータの視覚解析を支援し促進することができる．本稿では，多変量数値データに変換操作を施してネットワーク表現することで，人の視覚解析を効率化できたいくつかの成果事例について紹介した．

企画セッション「データ科学としての天文学」の一般講演（講演要旨集電子版Z109b）．活動銀河核のうち，ジェットが観測者の方向を向き，ビーミング効果によってジェットからの放射が卓越して観測される天体はブレーザーとよばれる．我々は，2次元平面に時間軸を加えた3次元空間内で天体の偏光変動を
チューブとして可視化するツールTimeTubesを開発した．我々は広島大学かなた望遠鏡が取得したブレーザーの偏光データにこのツールを用いた．その結果，偏光角の回転，特に中心が原点から外れた回転現象やフレアの偏光角が特定の範囲に偏る傾向などが認識しやすくなることを確認した．特にブレーザーPKS 1749 + 096 では，偏光角の回転とフレア極大の偏光角の偏りが同時に見られ，さらにフレアの偏光角が電波ジェットの方向に平行であることがわかった．

We introduce our two recent works on type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) based on high-dimensional data-driven techniques.
In the second work, we used a visual analytics tool for the
asymmetric biclustering method to find both a good set of variables and samples at the same time. Using 14 variables and 132 samples, we found that SNe Ia can be divided into two categories by the expansion velocity of ejecta. In addition, the two sub-groups can be characterized by the strength of silicon lines. this example demonstrates that the high-dimensional data-driven approach is useful
for the big-data era of supernovae.

Optical polarization provides important clues to the magnetic field in blazar jets. It is easy to find intriguing features in the time-series data of the polarization degree (PD) and position angle (PA). On the
other hand, the trajectory of the object on the Stokes QU plane becomes essential when the object has multiple components of polarization. In this case, ironically, the more data we have, the more difficult it is to gain any knowledge from it. Here, we introduce TimeTubes, a new visualization scheme to explore the time-series of
polarization observed in blazars. We used TimeTubes for our data taken by the Kanata telescope between 2008-2014. We found that this tool facilitates the recognition of the patterns in blazar variations. We show some demonstrations of TimeTubes in our presentation.

　View Summary

Many-to-many parallel coordinate plots enable users to grasp at a time correlations between arbitrary pairs of dimensions in a given multi-dimensional dataset. However, the more pairs of dimensions we visualize, the smaller area for displaying each of the pairs becomes. This problem makes it difficult for the users to discover specific highlycorrelated pairs in the datasets. This poster presented our attempt to make the many-to-many parallel coordinate plots scalable by biclustering the underlying dataset in terms of data samples and dimensions asymmetrically with different methods. The effectiveness of this approach was empirically proven through applications of the current prototype system to several practical datasets.

1999年にACM Computer Graphics, 33(2)で米国ウィスコンシン大学のB. Hibbardが掲げた，科学技術可視化の最重要課題トップ10は，2004年に米国ユタ大学SCI所長のC. Johnsonにより15件の課題にバージョンアップされ，関連研究開発のマイルストーンとして幅広く引用されてきた．2014年6月に開催されたDagstuhl Seminarでは，そのうち４点が採り上げられて集中的な議論がなされたが，同セミナーで登壇したC. Johnsonは，その後10年間に進展した分野の最新状況を鑑み，同リストが近々更新されることを強く望んでいた．特に横断的な可視化技術に終始することなく，個々の科学技術分野における可視化の応用的側面がクローズアップされるべきである点を強調していたのも興味深い．本パネルでは，国内の関連学会を代表する5名のパネリストを中心に，シンポジウムの参加者とともに，一足早く日本版のトップ課題策定を試みてみたい．

Sparse modeling is intended to exploit the inherent sparseness that can be commonly observed in huge quantities of high-dimensional scientific data, and thereby enabling to extract the maximum amount of information from the data effectively and efficiently. In order to come up with a visualization platform for facilitating such sparse modeling, we have focused primarily on the contractility of parallel coordinates. In this talk, we will present two promising schemes: one is to use spectral graph analysis of correlation among axes and the other is to rely on biclustering to identify clusters of data samples and groups of highly-correlated axes simultaneously. Enhanced visualization capabilities of contractible parallel coordinates will also be discussed.

In this project, we are going to develop a forensic visualization lifecycle management system, where leading-edge informatics technologies, such as provenance management, augmented reality and affection estimation, are integrated to allow the users with different roles to visualize investigated crime data in a first-person manner for clarifying points of dispute in court. In this first-year report, we place a particular focus on realtime 3D simulation of bleeding as an integral part of functionalities to be provided by the developed system.

The recent advent of inexpensive but high-performance digital cameras and smartphones gives rise to an uncontrollable amount of semi-structured imagery on the SNS. However, subjective choice of targets and their compositions arising in it requires a novel way to coordinated browsing, which makes it easier for the viewers to comprehend the perspective of the world. We have recently attempted to take shooting objects and conditions into account to derive from such an imagery dataset, an abstraction hierarchy which is expected to serve as the referential basis for effective browsing through a 3X3 partitioned display. In this talk, we will show the feasibility of a pilot environment with an application to a problem of synthetic world exploration.

近年, 安価で高性能なデジタルカメラやスマートフォンの普及などにより, Web 上には大量の画像データが溢れている. しかし, ほとんどの画像では, 意図的あるいは無意識的に, その構図や被写体の選択に撮影者の主観が込められている.そのため, そのような画像を客観的に眺めるためには, 被写体のみならず, その被写体を取り巻く環境も視覚的に捉えることが必要となる. 本稿では, 静止画像のデータがもつ半構造性を補い，画像を取り巻く環境を可視化するシステムを提案する. この環境可視化システムは, 画像を抽象化階層とよばれる表現に変換し, レイヤ間を垂直に移動する人称変換と, 同一レイヤ内を行き来する水平な移動を主軸として, 被写体を取り巻く環境に対するユーザの理解を支援する．

樹木モデリングはコンピュータグラフィックスのなかでも重要な研究分野の一つであり, 樹木の複雑な枝葉構造から, その植物学的な規則やモデリングの簡易化を追求するなど, 従来からさまざまな研究が行われてきた. 本研究では, 樹木モデリングを一層簡易化することに着目し, ShadowDrawパラダイムを利用したスケッチベース樹木モデリングを提案する. このパラダイムの導入により, ユーザはスケッチを描くスキルを必要としないだけでなく, 実際の樹木画像をガイドとして利用できるため, 既存のスケッチベース手法に比べて, 植物学的にも現実味のあるスケッチを描くことができる. 本手法は, ShadowDrawパラダイムに基づいて, 従来のスケッチベース手法を改良するものであるが, Web上の樹木画像を集合知として利用する例示ベース手法とも位置づけられる.

Condensed views for long-duration visualization provenance

In order to totally support repeated visual analysis processes, any environment is required to record and manage the provenance information. However, too much provenance information obtained from long-duration visual analysis possibly makes it difficult for the users to find primary analysis results at a glance, and to reutilize the experiences for further analysis. In this talk, we present our recent attempts to improve the scalability of managing the provenance information through the proposal of two algorithms to provide condensed views of the version trees.

液滴が固体表面や液体表面に大きな速度で衝突すると, スプラッシングが起きる. 薄い膜となって周囲に広がった液体は, 縁に凹凸を生じ, 凸の部分が2 次的な液滴へと変化する. この現象は, ミルククラウン, スプラッシングペイント, 雨粒が舞う水たまりなど, 日常の多くの場面で見られ, スプラッシュの特徴が
視覚的リアリティに大きく関わる. スプラッシュが生じる物理的メカニズムには知られていない点も多くあり, 実験的なアプローチにより, 要因となる物理量やそれぞれの関係性が解析されている. そのなかでも,最も重要で, 数年前まで知られていなかった要因として, 液体周囲の気体からの圧力の影響がある. そこで,本研究では, 粒子ベース流体解析法の1 つである, SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) 法において,従来考慮されていなかった周辺気圧をナビエ・ストークス方程式にモデル化し, 凹凸が生じて2 次的な液滴が生成されるような, スプラッシュの重要な特徴を表現する. 提案手法によって, 従来のSPH やほとん
どの流体シミュレーションで表現することができなかった, フィンガリングなどのリアルな液体の挙動を,わずかな計算コストの追加で実現できることを示す.

近年，コンピュータを用いて素材画像から迷路を自動生成するアルゴリズムに関する研究が多数行われている．本稿では，携帯端末のカメラ機能を介して入力した素材画像と生成した迷路を拡張現実（Augmented Reality; AR）表示するような新たな迷路生成アプリケーションを提案する．AR による迷路の重畳表示に加えて，パノラマ画像入力やクロスカーソルによる没入的なプレイ方法を採り入れることにより，「現実空間」から「迷路空間」への変換のみに着目していた既存研究とは異なり，「現実空間」と「迷路空間」を融合した「AR 迷路」という新たなスタイルのエンタテイメント創成の実現を目指す．

Maintaining scalability through cooperation with smart software is an essential factor for establishing next-generation, exploratory visualization environments. In this talk, we will describe how our cooperative visualization lifecycle management system, called VIDELICET, succeeds to provide the users with its scalable visual analysis, with a particular focus on the following three points. (1) The VIDELICET system builds upon a visualization ontology to organize its case repository, which is intended to collect successful visual analysis examples in the past cooperation. The “design-by-examples” principle allows the users to browse the repository to retrieve promising visualization workflows optimized to their objectives, with which even novice users can expeditiously kick off their visual analysis. (2) A hierarchical provenance model has been adopted to enable the users to record, trace and re-utilize their visual exploration workflows coupled with acquired knowledge as their sharing provenance resources. Condensed display of the version trees makes it possible for them to find primary visualization results at a glance and to judiciously determine further course of visual analysis in the future. (3) Visualization-related parameter tweaking is a tedious and time-consuming task for most users. The VIDELICET employs differential topology-based field data analysis tools, which can suggest proper parameter values for transfer functions, viewing, illuminations, and the like for performing comprehensible visualizations in a semi-automatic way.

本稿では，ボリュームモデリングと弾性体変形手法を組み合わせ，非一様な剛性をもつ物体の変形シミュレーション手法として，FastLSM+を提案する．Constructive Volume Geometry(CVG)によって剛性分布を作成し, 高速な弾性体変形手法FastLSMに剛性分布を反映させることで，これまで困難であった任意の形状と剛性分布をもつ物体の変形シミュレーションを実現する．

計算フォレンジクス（計算法科学）が扱う範囲を，科学捜査から電子裁判にまで拡張するうえで必要となる要素技術として，出自管理，高精度数値シミュレーション，拡張現実，情報推定の4点を採り上げ，その役割を論じたあと，それらを組み合わせた仮想現場検証のパイロットシステムの構想について紹介した．

写真撮影や手描きによらず空の画像を得る手法として，現在大きく2つの手法が存在する．ひとつは画像検索，もうひとつは3DCGによる画像生成である．しかし，画像検索は探したものを加工することに，3DCGは生成そのものに手間がかかり，ともに効率的とは言い難い．本稿では，柔軟で効率的な2DCGでの画像編集と制作に最適な画像出力を行うことができるシステムCosmicAIを提案する．CosmicAIでは，ユーザは柔軟な編集システムを利用して，画像を一から作成するだけでなく，情報共有により他の人が作成した空の構成データを利用して編集を行うことができる．これにより，短時間で望む空の画像を得ることができるとともに，システムを通じて見知らぬ人との協力が成り立つことで，より洗練された空の画像が生成される．

本稿では, 簡単に2 次元オブジェクトをモデリングするための新しいパラダイムとして, クロス＆グラフトを提案する. クロス（crossing, 交配）は2 つのオブジェクトから両者の特徴を併せもった新たな世代のオブジェクトを生成する操作であり, グラフト（grafting, 接合）はオブジェクト同士を接合する操作である. ユーザはプリミティブからスタートし, クロスやグラフトを繰り返すことで, 目的のオブジェクトを得る. クロスは, グラフトにより得られる接合情報を利用して実行される. これにより,簡単な操作であっても大幅な変更を施すことが可能になる. また, システムがユーザの予想を超えた結果を瞬時に返すことで, ユーザの発想が拡がる可能性もある.

Visual analysis of 3D diffusion tensor fields has become an important topic especially in medical imaging for understanding microscopic structures and physical properties of biological tissues. However, it is still difficult to continuously track the underlying features from discrete tensor samples, due to the absence of appropriate interpolation schemes in the sense that we are able to handle possible degeneracy while fully respecting the smooth transition of tensor anisotropic features.
This is because the degeneracy may cause rotational inconsistency of tensor anisotropy. This paper presents such an approach to interpolating 3D diffusion tensor fields. The primary idea behind our approach is to resolve the possible degeneracy through optimizing the rotational transformation between a pair of neighboring tensors by analyzing their associated eigenstructure, while the degeneracy can be identified by applying a minimum spanning tree-based clustering algorithm to the original tensor samples. Comparisons with existing interpolation schemes will be provided to demonstrate the advantages of our scheme, together with several results of tracking white matter fiber bundles in a human brain.

本発表では，特定の種類の画像を生成するシステムとして，これまでにない高い実用性をもつシステム"CosmicAI"を紹介する．CosmicAIは，利用用途の広い"空"に特化した画像生成システムである．2Dで直感的に使えるため，景観作成3DCGソフトウェアに含まれる空の画像生成機能に比べて，気軽で扱いやすいシステムといえる．システムの機能は，"パーツごとの検索"，"柔軟な画像合成"，"用途にあわせた出力"の3 つに大きく分けられる．CosmicAI の検索は，パーツ(雲，月，背景(雲，月以外)) ごとの属性およびスケッチを用いた精度の高いものとなっている．見つけてきた画像の合成も柔軟性が高く，どの背景に対しても，どの雲，どの月も思いのままに配置でき，微調節機能によりユーザの希望とわずかに異なるパーツであっても，希望に合うように近づけられる．出力は，静止画用画像，動画用画像，全体画像の3つがあり，いずれも独自に撮影した画像を用いた安定した高画質の画像出力が可能である．動画用画像出力は雲や視点の変化にも対応している．

現在野球映像における投球動作の分析は, 専門家の感性や経験によって手作業で行われることが多く, 多くの時間を要する問題がある. そこで本稿では, 特に戦略上有効な各投手特有のクセを発見する手法を提案する. 提案手法では, クセの最も発生しやすいグローブの向きに注目し, パーティクルフィルタによってグローブを追跡し, SIFTによってグローブの勾配方向を計算しクセの分析を行う. 評価実験として, クセを持つ投手に対し提案手法を適用し, クセが発見できていることを確認した.

筆者らは2005年からVIDELICET (VIsualization DEsign and LIfe CyclE managemenT)とよばれる協調可視化環境(Cooperative Visualization Environment: CVE)の開発に着手した．本システムは，成功事例のリポジトリを公開することによって，ユーザ個々の流動可視化ワークフロー設計・選択タスクを支援するだけでなく，複数ユーザによって階層的に構成される中長期的なプロジェクトの可視化ライフサイクル全体を通して，視覚解析の出自情報を詳細に記録し，プロジェクト全体にその閲覧と再利用を促す機能を提供している．本講演では，VIDELICETシステムがもつ特長について，特に知見獲得のスケーラビリティの観点から概観し，情報科学がいかにして流体力学に資することができるかについて，CVE研究開発の立場から解説を試みる．

我々は, 血液のビジュアルシミュレーションを設計するにあたって, 生成される画像やアニメーションの視覚的リアリティを高めるためには何を考慮すべきかを, ファクタアナリシスによって調査し, 計画的に研究を進めて
きた. 本論文では, 血液の見えに関する重要なファクタである“媒体としての表示”を実現するための手法を提案する. 血液は, 赤血球などの固体成分と血漿の液体成分から構成される. 血液が赤いのは, 赤血球内のヘモグロビンの色素によるもので, 大量の血液が黒く見えるのは, 入射した光が赤血球により吸収・散乱を繰り返すためである. 本論文は, 視点から見た血液の厚みによって赤血球による光の吸収・散乱の度合を定義し, それに基づいて血液表面の色を指定することにより, これらの媒体の視覚的性質を少ない計算量で実現した.

At the 2006 Emerging Technologies, Burton Inc. in Japan and others successfully exhibited the 3D Aerial Display device, with which the users are allowed to plot a unicursal series of laser-induced illuminants freely in the midair, and thus the surrounding audience can enjoy watching different aspects of the 3D image from different positions, without any eye strain. In the year of 2011, we will present our latest version of the device, called SRV (Super Real Vision)-5000, where we condensed our state of the art laser-plasma technology into a small acrylic case. One remarkable feature of the new device lies in its enhanced resolution: from 300 points/sec. (2006) to 50,000 points/sec. (2011), and it enables us to display 3D objects more faithfully in real time, whereas the display volume gets a bit diminished. The SRV-5000 model is expected to increase the potency of utilization in various application fields.

我々は, 血液が皮膚表面上を伝う様子をビジュアルシミュレーションするにあたって, 生成される画像やアニメーションの質と視覚的リアリティを高めるためには何を考慮すべきかをファクタアナリシスによって調査し, 計画的に研究を進めてきた. 本論文では, その主要ファクタである“傷口からの出血”, “硬化作用”, “吸着”を実現するための手法を提案する. “傷口からの出血”は, 出血量, 傷口の太さなどを考慮した体内の血流モデルを計算することで実現した.また, 血液の“硬化作用”も考慮できるように, 空気との反応による粘性の変化も実装した. さらに, “吸着”については, SPH 法のナビエ・ストークス方程式にファンデルワールス力による吸着力を加えることで, 皮膚表面を伝う流れや皮膚表面への付着を表現した.

娯楽分野において砂の動きをコンピュータグラフィックスで描いたものはよく見かける. しかし, 砂と風とのインタラクションを扱った研究は見当たらない. そこで我々は砂塵を対象として, ビジュアルシミュレーションを実現するアプローチを提案する. 螺旋状の上昇気流の解析的ベクトル場に沿って砂塵の砂粒子の局所的な動きを発生させ, その軌跡を地面との相互作用を考慮しながらインタラクティブに制御することができる. また, 粒子ボリュームレンダリング(Particle-Based Volume Rendering: PBVR)を用いることで, 比較的少ない粒子数でも効果的に砂塵らしい煙状の表現を実現した.

In visual analysis, it is important to maintain interactive and stable rendering frame rates, because it is known that unstable frame rates may cause stress and distraction to the users. For stabilizing the frame rates in large-scale particle visualization, we propose a novel time-critical rendering scheme that combines two methods —
a fast method based on shaded texture mapping and a high-quality method using quadratic surfaces. A method to render each particle is decided on the fly according to the viewing distance; the high quality method is chosen only when the distance is smaller than a threshold, to allow the user to observe the region of interest closely.
A frame-rate stabilization mechanism based on a PID controller is deployed to change the threshold distance dynamically, in order to regulate the number of high-quality particles. We evaluate the effectiveness of our time-critical rendering scheme through experiments with molecular dynamics simulation datasets.

本稿では粒子ベースによる火炎レンダリング法を提案する．可視化分野で考案された粒子ベースボリュームレンダリングとよばれる手法をベースとし，これを火炎の特性に合わせて合理的に改良した．これにより，従来の粒子ベースレンダリングでは困難であった，ディテールの表現とユーザの制御性を大きく向上させることができた．また，既存API を活用することで，実装が容易かつ実行速度は高速であり，充分なインタラクティブ性を提供できる．さらに，本手法の要求する粒子データは座標と温度のみであるため，特定の粒子シミュレータに依存することなく，汎用的に用いることができる．

本稿では，粒子ベースによる火炎のシミュレーション法を提案する．本手法は，SPHによる流体シミュレーションを火炎に適用したものであり，ナビエ・ストークス方程式の外力として，シンプルな化学反応モデルから発生した熱による浮力項を加える.すなわち，既存のSPH のプログラムと十分な互換性を保持することができ，複雑な物理シミュレーションプログラムの一元化が可能である．また，火炎の周辺に粒子が集中するようにを効果的にリサンプリングすることで計算コストを抑える. 本手法を用いることで，火炎の形成から安定状態への推移，固体の影響による変形などが滑らかに表現でき，インタラクティブに3 次元シミュレーションを実行することができる．

In visual analysis, it is important to maintain interactive and stable rendering framerates, because it is known that unstable framerates may cause stress and distraction problems to the users. For stabilizaing framerates in large-scale particle visualization, we deploy a fast rendering method based on shaded texture mapping and a high-qualitymethod using implicit surfaces in a combined manner. Actual rendering method for each particle is decided on the fly according to the measured distance between the center of the particle and the viewpoint. We propose a framerate stabilization scheme using PID control, which dynamically changes the switching-distance to control the number of particles rendered by each method. We illustrate how well our dynamic framerate stability control works through experiments with practical molecular dynamics simulation datasets.

本研究報告では間接照明の影響を考慮し，集光模様の表現力に優れるレンダリング手法であるphoton mapping のCell Broadband Engine (Cell/B.E.) 上での実装方法と，その性能評価について述べる．photon mappingを実装した結果，今後の課題は多く残るが，Cell/B.E. の演算用コアであるSPE を8 個使用した時の性能がSPE を1個使用した時の約6 倍になり，高い台数効果を確認することができた．

To control aircraft landing and takeoff effectively, it is important to analyze the collapse process of relevant wake turbulence. In this poster, we propose a topologically-based multisensory realization method for observers to comprehend the behavior of the phenomena more intuitively. To this end, we design visual transfer functions with reference to a time-varying critical point histogram, as well as 4DoF haptic transfer functions for producing 2D forces and 2D torques so as to identify the location and strength of a target vortex in real time. The effectiveness of our method is evaluated with a time-varying 2D wake turbulence dataset calculated by measurement-integrated simulation.

Maintaining scalability through cooperation with smart software is an essential factor for realizing next-generation, “exploratory” visualization environments. In this joint project, we have been developing a cooperative visualization lifecycle management system, called VIDELICET, which allows multiple users to effectively record, trace and reutilize their visual exploration workflows as their sharing provenance resources. In this article, we focus primarily on its underlying hierarchical visualization provenance model, and the effectiveness of which is proven through the usage of the current prototype system in practical flow analysis.

本発表では，ユーザが注目している領域の粒子を精密に描画する手法として陰関数曲面，それ以外の領域の粒子を高速に描画する手法としてテクスチャマッピングの2 種類の描画手法を併用することにより，全体の描画に要する時間を調節し，大規模粒子系の可視化における時間重視レンダリングを実現する．ここで，ユーザの注目領域として，視点と注視点の2 種類の近傍を採り上げ，これらの点と各粒子の中心座標のユークリッド距離に応じて，2 種類の描画手法を切り替える．また，解析に伴う系内のウォークスルーに対応するために，描画切り替え距離を動的に制御する方法も提案する．さらに，本レンダリング法を分子動力学シミュレーションで生成されたデータに適用し，その効果を検証する．

ボリュームデータを視覚化する際に，空間的位置の把握が困難であったり，遮蔽効果によって奥行き方向の情報がわからなかったりする問題を解決する有力な手法として，視覚化と力覚化の併用が知られている．しかし，誤っ
た力覚化は，問題を解決できないばかりか，ユーザに間違えた情報を与えてしまう．そこで，与えられたデータに対して，適切な力覚伝達関数(HTF: Haptic Transfer Function) を設計することが重要になる．本稿では，3 次元拡散テンソルフィールドに注目し，力とトルクを用いた6 自由度のHTF を提案する．さらに，拡散テンソルフィールドの基本的情報の力覚化と，拡散トラクトグラフィ(DBT: Diffusion-Based Tractography) 法によるテクスチャを用いた拡散テンソルフィールドの局所的情報の視覚化を併用するシステムを実装する．DBT テクスチャを生成する拡散計算ではその局所的性質を生かし，GPU を描画以外の汎用計算に用いるGPGPU (General Purpose computation on GPUs) の原理を適用する．そして，実際に拡散MRI により計測されたヒトの脳内白質の神経線維の構造を表す3 次元拡散テンソルデータの解析への適用を通じて，同手法およびシステムの効果を検証する．

本論文では，描画対象のシーンの構図から，非透視投影の歪みを全体として不自然にならないよう自動的に制御する新しい手法を提案する．まず，オブジェクトの歪みの許容範囲の，手がかりとオブジェクトの位置関係に対する
法則性に関し仮定を置き，それを心理学実験を通して明らかにする．さらにその結果を，透視投影を設計する際の制約として用いることで，不自然な歪みを知覚しない範囲に局所的な変形を保ちながら，全体として非透視投影を設計する手法を提案する．

ボリュームデータを視覚化する際に，空間的位置の把握が困難であったり，遮蔽効果によって奥の情報がわからなかったりする問題を解決する有力な方法として，力覚化が知られている．しかし，誤った力覚化は，問題を解決
できないばかりか，ユーザに間違えた情報を与えてしまう．それを避けるためには，与えられたデータに対して，適切な力覚伝達関数(HTF:Haptic Transfer Function) を設計することが重要である．本論文では，近年撮像装置の発展により，急速に関連研究が発展しつつある拡散テンソル量に注目し，力とトルクを用いた6 自由度のHTFを提案する．さらに，PHANToM Premium 3.0 を用いた実装系の有効性を，ユーザ評価実験を通じて検証する．
