Our aim in this paper is to give a clear view of what can be proved on the Fitting ideal of the Pontryagin dual of the minus class group of a CM-field as a Galois module. The class group we study is the classical full class group, and not the ray class group mod T (we are particularly interested in the Teichmüller character component of the class group). We show that several theorems in the existing literature hold unconditionally, using recent groundbreaking results by Dasgupta, Kakde, Silliman, and Wang. In particular, we give a simple proof of the equivariant Iwasawa main conjecture including the case p=2, using their keystone theorems due to Dasgupta and Kakde in [Ann. of Math. (2) 197 (2023), 289–388] and due to Dasgupta, Kakde, Silliman and Wang in [arXiv:2310.16399]. We unconditionally compute the Fitting ideal of the Pontryagin dual of the minus class group of the cyclotomic Zp-extension of a CM-field, and also the Fitting ideal of S-ramified Iwasawa modules for totally real number fields. The numbers of minimal generators of these Iwasawa modules are also studied.

On derivatives of Kato’s Euler system for elliptic curves

In this paper, we formulate a new conjecture concerning Kato’s Euler system for elliptic curves E over Q. This ‘Generalized Perrin-Riou Conjecture’ predicts a precise congruence relation between a Darmon-type derivative of the zeta element of E over an arbitrary real abelian field and the critical value of an appropriate higher derivative of the L-function of E over Q. We prove the conjecture specializes in the relevant case of analytic rank one to recover Perrin-Riou’s conjecture on the logarithms of zeta elements, and also that, under mild technical hypotheses, the ‘order of vanishing’ part of the conjecture is unconditionally valid in arbitrary rank. This approach also allows us to prove a natural higher-rank generalization of Rubin’s formula concerning derivatives of p-adic L-functions and to establish an explicit connection between the p-part of the classical Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer formula and the Iwasawa main conjecture in arbitrary rank and for arbitrary reduction at p. In a companion article we prove that the approach developed here also provides a new interpretation of the Mazur–Tate conjecture that leads to the first (unconditional) theoretical evidence in support of this conjecture for curves of strictly positive rank.

Minimal resolutions of Iwasawa modules

In this paper, we study the module-theoretic structure of classical Iwasawa modules. More precisely, for a finite abelian p-extension K/k of totally real fields and the cyclotomic Zp-extension K∞/K, we consider XK∞,S=Gal(MK∞,S/K∞) where S is a finite set of places of k containing all ramifying places in K∞ and archimedean places, and MK∞,S is the maximal abelian pro-p-extension of K∞ unramified outside S. We give lower and upper bounds of the minimal numbers of generators and of relations of XK∞,S as a Zp[[Gal(K∞/k)]]-module, using the p-rank of Gal(K/k). This result explains the complexity of XK∞,S as a Zp[[Gal(K∞/k)]]-module when the p-rank of Gal(K/k) is large. Moreover, we prove an analogous theorem in the setting that K/k is non-abelian. We also study the Iwasawa adjoint of XK∞,S, and the minus part of the unramified Iwasawa module for a CM-extension. In order to prove these theorems, we systematically study the minimal resolutions of XK∞,S.

Some analytic quantities yielding arithmetic information about elliptic curves

For a rational elliptic curve E and a positive integer n, satisfying some properties, we introduce analytic quantities delta_{n} using modular symbols, and give conjectures that these quantities control the maps of reduction modulo primes dividing n on E(Q). These conjectures also describe the structure of Selmer groups and the Tate-Shafarevich group of E. One of the aims of this paper is to provide an exposition on the theory of these analytic quantities. In the direction of the conjectures, we generalize, to all good reduction primes p, an injectivity theorem which was proven only for good ordinary primes in our earlier paper.

Dans cet article, pour une extension abélienne K/k de corps de nombres de type CM, nous proposons une conjecture qui décrit complètement l’idéal de Fitting de la partie moins du dual de Pontryagin du groupe de classes de rayon T de K, pour un ensemble T d’idéaux premiers, comme Gal(K/k)-module. Nous soulignons que nous considérons ici le groupe de classes au sens propre, sans laisser de côté les idéaux ramifiés (l’objet que nous étudions n’est pas le quotient du groupe de classes par le sous-groupe engendré par les classes des idéaux premiers ramifiés). Nous prouvons que notre conjecture est une conséquence de la conjecture de nombres de Tamagawa équivariante, et prouvons la version de notre conjecture en théorie d’Iwasawa.

On the Refined Conjectures on Fitting Ideals of Selmer Groups of Elliptic Curves with Supersingular Reduction

In this paper, we study the Fitting ideals of Selmer groups over finite subextensions in the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ of an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$. Especially, we present a proof of the "weak main conjecture"à la Mazur and Tate for elliptic curves with good (supersingular) reduction at an odd prime $p$. We also prove the "strong main conjecture"suggested by the second named author under the validity of the $\pm $-main conjecture and the vanishing of a certain error term. The key idea is the explicit comparison among "finite layer objects", "$\pm $-objects", and "fine objects"in Iwasawa theory. The case of good ordinary reduction is also treated.

On Stark elements of arbitrary weight and their p-adic families

In this article we shall generalize the theory of Stark elements to arbitrary ‘weight’. This means that we define canonical generalized Stark elements that correspond to the leading terms at arbitrary integers of L-series attached to the multiplicative group. We investigate their basic properties, and formulate both a conjecture on the precise integrality condition that these Stark elements satisfy and a conjecture that describes the Galois module structures of certain cohomology groups as a generalization of the refined Rubin-Stark conjecture we formulated in an earlier article ‘On zeta elements for Gm’ in Doc. Math. 21 (2016). We then prove these conjectures in several interesting cases. The integrality condition studied here will then play an important role in a subsequent article of the first and third authors which formulates a precise conjectural congruence relation between the generalized Stark elements of differing weights that are defined here.

For a finite abelian p-extension K/k of totally real fields and the cyclotomic Zp-extension K∞/K, we prove a strong version of an equivariant Iwasawa main conjecture by determining completely the Fitting ideal over Zp[[Gal(K∞/k)]] of the classical Iwasawa module X_{K∞,S}, which is the Galois group of the maximal pro-p abelian S-ramified extension of K∞, where S contains all ramified primes in K∞/k. To do this, we prove a conjecture which was proposed in a previous paper by the first and second author, concerning the minors of a relation matrix for the second syzygy module of the trivial module Z over a suitable group ring.

We develop an explicit `higher rank’Iwasawa theory for zeta elements associated to the multiplicative group over abelian extensions of number fields. We show this
theory leads to a concrete new strategy for proving special cases of the equivariant Tamagawa number conjecture and, as a first application of this approach, we prove new cases of the conjecture over natural families of abelian CM-extensions of totally real fields for which the relevant p-adic L-functions possess trivial zeroes.

この論文では、私の分類で言う典型的な II 型の完備離散付値体に対し、その Milnor K 群の自然な filtration による graded quotients の構造を完全に決定した。また、exponential 写像の核も決定した。応用として、このような体のアーベル拡大の様子を記述した。このような graded quotients の構造は等標数のときには知られているが、混標数のときは、知られている例は少ない。この論文の結果が、難解な場合で構造がわかった最初の例である。

この論文では、CM 体のイデアル類群のマイナス成分の構造が、ゼータ関数の値で決まるあるイデアル(論文では高次 Stickelberger イデアルとよんでいる)によって決定することを証明した。この定理は、1 の p 分体のときは Kolyvagin-Rubin の結果と一致し、彼らの定理の一般化であると考えられる。証明の方法に関しては、Fitting イデアルを使った岩澤理論の精密化とも密接に結びついている。この論文ではまた、Gauss 和の一般化にあたる新しい Euler 系を導入した。

通常の岩澤主予想では、イデアル類群と p 進 L 関数の間の関係は、特性イデアルを使って定式化される。この論文では、両者の間にはもっと詳しい密接な関係があることを予想し、多くの場合に証明を与えた。アーベル体については、Zp 拡大という無限次拡大まで行かなくても、有限次の体で Fitting イデアルというものを使って両者の関係が表されることを発見した。これは通常の岩澤理論の精密化であり、イデアル類群について詳しい情報を与えることができる。

この論文では、有理数体上の p で超特異還元をもつ楕円曲線に対し、円分 Zp 拡大で Tate Shafarevich 群の位数がどのように増加していくかを研究し、ある種の条件の下でその振る舞いを完全に記述する公式を得た。楕円曲線が p で通常還元をもてば、このような公式は Mazur によって 70 年代に知られていたが、超特異還元をもつ場合は長い間ずっと不明であったが、この論文で解明された。この論文の結果は、このような楕円曲線の岩澤理論への道を開く結果である。

この論文では、1 の冪根をすべて添加して得られる体のイデアル類群について調べた。特に、次のようなきれいな結果を得た。有理数体に 1 の n 乗根をすべて添加して得られる体(有理数体の最大アーベル拡大体)の最大実部分体のイデアル類群は自明である。これは、Gras によって予想されていたことであった。また、虚 2 次体の最大アーベル拡大についてもそのイデアル類群が自明であることを証明した。Greenberg 予想への応用についても述べた。

総実代数体の岩澤ラムダ不変量が 0 であろう、という Greenberg 予想があるが、この論文では Deligne-Soule の円分元を使って、実アーベル体に対し、この予想を数値的に検証する方法を提起した。今まで不明であったさまざまな例に対して、Greenberg 予想を確かめた。また。有限体の上に初等的に定義できるある元を導入し、その元を使って、モチーフ Z(r) の Tate Shafarevich 群の位数が計算できることを示した。

この論文では、Milnor K 群に対して、以前私が導入した exponential 写像を詳しく調べ、その「収束半径」を決定した。この写像は完備離散付値体の Milnor K 群の構造について、多くの情報をもたらす。また、高次元局所体の類体論の相互写像を具体的に書く明示公式も得た。普通の局所体の場合に述べても、この写像の存在は非自明で、Sen の公式はただちに岩澤の公式に帰着され、岩澤の公式は Artin Hasse の古典的公式に帰着されて、簡潔な別証明が得られた。

この論文では、1 の p 分体のイデアル類群の p 成分の構造についての有名な予想と、レベル 1 の保型形式との関係についての結果を得た。特に、重さ k, レベル 1 の保型形式の Hecke 環の Eisenstein 成分が Gorenstein 環であれば、1 の p 分体のイデアル類群の p 成分のガロア群が Teichmuller 指標の 1-k 乗で作用する部分は巡回群になる(この場合の有名な予想が確かめられる)ことを示した。Herbrand-Ribet の有名な定理に対して、見通しのよい証明を与えることもできる。

この論文では、有理整数環 Z の K 群(Quillen の K 群)と 1 の p 分体のイデアル類群との関係を確立し、有名な Vandiver 予想をガロア群の作用で分解したときの、一部分を解決した。すなわち、p を素数とするとき、 1 の p 分体のイデアル類群の p 成分のガロア群が Teichmuller 指標の p-3 乗で作用する部分は消えていることを示した。Z の K 群をイデアル類群と比較することにより、その構造についての予想も提起した。また、Deligne-Soule の円分元が Euler 系をなすことも示し、その応用も述べた。

Computation of the syntomic regulator in the cyclotomic case

この論文では、Deligne と Soule によって定義された円分元の Gros による syntomic regulator 写像による像を計算した。その値は、p 進ポリログ関数によって具体的に書ける。証明の方法は、類体論の相互写像を具体的に表す明示公式と syntomic コホモロジーとの関係についても光を与えるものであり、今まで知られていなかったさまざまの人たちの明示公式の関係も記述することができた。特に、Coleman の公式と Vostokov の公式の関係を記述した。

この論文では、有理素数 p を素元に持つ完備離散付値体のアーベル拡大を、従来の類体論の記述とはまったく異なる方法で記述した。なお、考える離散付値体の剰余体は何であってもよい。剰余体が有限体や高次元局所体のときは類体論が知られていたが、このような一般の体のアーベル拡大の様子を記述したのは、この論文が初めてである。証明では、syntomic コホモロジーの考え方を本質的に使っている。なお、Brauer 群やこのような体の上の多様体の p 進 vanishing cycle の記述も与えた。

A note on p-adic etale cohomology

この論文では、局所体の整数環上の多様体に対し、Fontaine と Messing によって定義された syntomic コホモロジーの層が、正しい p 進コホモロジーを与えることを示した。具体的には、generic fiber の p 進エタールコホモロジーと、special fiber のクリスタリンコホモロジーとをsyntomic コホモロジーを使ってつなぐ distinguished triangle が存在することを示した。なお、代数閉体まで行けばこのような関係があることは加藤和也によって示されていたが、この論文の結果により、類体論などのより数論的な問題にこの論文の方法が使えることがはっきりした。

On two types of complete discrete valuation fields

この論文では、混標数完備離散付値体をその整数環の微分加群の構造によって、二つに分類することを提案した。II 型の完備離散付値体では、そのアーベル拡大の様子が普通の局所体の場合とはまったく異なることを発見した。またII 型の体では、付値によって定まる Milnor K 群の filtration の様子は、Bloch によって調べられた等標数の場合とはまったく違う状況が起こることもわかった。また I 型の体の様子を調べることにより、斎藤秀司による局所体上の多様体のアーベル拡大に関する定理の別証明を与えた。
