While chemistry has enriched people's lives, it has also been deeply involved in problems such as war and environmental destruction. We are now faced with the need to seriously reexamine what it means to live a peaceful and prosperous life. We need to create a "new styles of chemistry" that is rich in diversity and considers the harmony between people and the earth, rather than being bound by a single value consciousness that pursues economic and material wealth.
In this study, the author will organize chemistry and society from the perspective of the connection between humanities and sciences, then consider "new styles of chemistry" and "new styles of life."

Hydroxyapatite is one of the most interesting materials in current technologies due to its wide possible applications as biomaterials and electrical devices. In this study, we synthesized magnesium-substituted hydroxyapatite (Ca10-XMgX(PO4)6(OH)2, X = 0, 0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50) by the chelate gel method, which has the potential advantage of both achieving homogeneous mixing of the component cations on an atomic scale and offering a solid powder composed of fine particles. We observed characteristics variation with the Mg substitution in high temperature region using the samples of X=0 and 0.25 by means of TG. The starting temperature of the creation of OH defects did not depend on Mg substitution when the heating rate is 2oC/min. On the other hand, in the case of 10oC/min, the starting temperature shifted into higher for both samples of X=0 and 0.25, while the shift was more remarkable for the sample of X=0. This result means Mg substitution enhances the creation of OH defects at high temperature.

科学技術は、人々の生活を豊かにしてきた一方で、事故や環境破壊などの問題を生み出してきた。科学技術の進展によるベネフィットとリスクの混在する中で、我々は真の豊かな生活について再考する必要に迫られている。すなわち、経済的、物質的豊かさを追求するだけでなく、多様性に富み自然界との調和を考えた真の豊かなくらしを生み出す必要がある。そのためには、科学技術を活かすために最適な政策を作り、実行することが重要である。ハイテクだけではなく、懐古だけでもないくらしを豊かにする科学技術の社会実装が求められている。科学技術と人文・社会科学の連接の先に、従来の延長ではない世界が創られるのではないか。すなわち文理連接こそが、未来への鍵だと考える。

水酸アパタイト(Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2)中のCaサイトへのMg置換固溶量が既往の研究で報告されているが、研究者間で相違があり、定かではない。そこで本研究では均一組成の制御が容易なキレートゲル法を用いて、Mg置換HApの合成し、Mgの固溶限界を調査した。

新型コロナウイルス感染症（COVID-19）の発生原因と感染の拡大には、人類活動が深くかかわっている。パンデミックを克服するためには、人類の個と集団（社会）の性質を読み解き、科学的な感染症対策と合わせて人と社会を総合的に捉えた対策を立てることが重要である。新型コロナ・パンデミックからのリカバリーに向けて、今から来るべき未来をデザインし、復旧の後には未来に向けて復興することが重要である。本講演では新型コロナ・パンデミックを概観しリカバリーについて考えてみたい。

発表の冒頭で、感染症の発生数の増加の原因が、農業、開発、都市化、グローバル化、温暖化など、人類活動にあることが指摘された。次に、過去の感染症とCovid-19の比較や、Covid-19の具体的な感染状況についての説明が為された。日本が東アジア最大の感染国であることについても指摘された。その上で、世界の他の地域と比較して、東アジアでの感染や重症化の被害が比較的小さいことの説明として、「交差免疫仮説」と「ネアンデルタール人の遺伝子仮説」が紹介された。どちらの仮説も、過去の感染の影響によって東アジア人が遺伝的にCovid-19による被害を受けにくくなっている可能性を示すものである。遺伝的に有利である可能性がある東アジアの中で、現状のような「東アジア最大の感染国」である日本の状況を、より深刻に考える必要があることが示唆された。続いて、ワクチンについて、その目的（個人を守る／社会を守る）、データ上の危険性の低さ、ワクチン接種の「優先順位」についての考え方、認可そして接種に向けたスケジュール、などについて説明が為された。更に、Covid-19防止対策の影響として、CO2排出量の顕著な減少や、自動車事故による死亡者の減少などが確認される点について指摘された。以上のことを踏まえて、最後に、科学技術による治療法の開発だけでは感染症への対抗策として十分ではなく、人と社会を総合的に捉えて感染症と向き合う必要性が主張され、我々がどのような社会を目指すのかということまで総合的に考える必要があり、この点において文理の連接が必要であると結論された。
