Research Achievements (Books)
New Frontiers in Asia-Latin America Integration: Trade Facilitation, Production Networks, and FTAs Antoni Estevadeordal, Masahiro Kawai, and Geneshan Wignaraja Internationalization of SMEs in Regional and Global Value Chains (p.140-169 with Hank Lim) Sage 2015
ASEAN and Regional Free Trade Agreements Christopher Findlay Pursuing a Consolidated Tariff Structure in the RCEP: Sensitivity and Inconsistency in ASEAN’s Trade Protection (p.149-170 with Arata Kuno and Yoshifumi Fukunaga) Routledge 2015
This book focuses on relatively unexplored areas in pension and health care arrangements, including financing, in East Asia. The book aims to fill the literature gap on social protection in East Asia by covering issues such as pension and health care arrangements in the depopulating high income countries of Japan and Korea; the challenges of the pay-out phase in Defined Contribution (DC) arrangements in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore; and the extension of coverage of social protection schemes in China, India, and Indonesia. It also reviews social protection from a much wider perspective and extends coverage of social protection in terms of both the proportion of the population with access to the social protection scheme and the types of risks faced by the households and by society as a whole. The book also gives attention to reforms of civil service pensions.

Strengthening Social Protection in East Asia, Oxon and New York Fukunari Kimura (edited with Mukul G. Asher) Routledge 2015
日本再生改革の論点 日本経済新聞社 TPP交渉の焦点(上)—農業関税、補助金に転換を(218~223ページ) 日本経済新聞出版社 2014
Japan was the first non-Western country to accomplish successful industrialization, and the dominant perception of its 'industrial policy' had over-emphasized specific characteristics of Japan. However, from the perspective of today's development thinking, Japan's economic history shared a wide range of common factors in usual economic development: macroeconomic stability, human resource development, and economic infrastructure. Industrial policy in Japan sometimes worked well and sometimes did not, depending on how effectively it counteracted market failure and took advantage of market dynamism. We must note, however, that the external conditions faced by Japan were widely different from what today's developing countries face.
